About

What Aloud does

Aloud is a dictation app for macOS. Hold a key, speak, and release: Aloud transcribes your speech on your Mac and types it straight into whatever app you are using, from your email client to your code editor to a chat window.

All speech recognition runs locally on your device using on-device models. Your microphone audio is never uploaded to any server. Aloud is built for people who would rather talk than type, without giving up control of their voice.

Optional Google Drive backup

Aloud can optionally connect to your own Google account to back up your app settings. This is entirely optional and off by default: the app works fully without it, and no Google account is required to dictate.

When you choose to connect, Aloud uses Google Drive's app data folder (the drive.appdata scope) to store a small backup of your preferences in a private, hidden folder that only Aloud can access. Aloud cannot see any of your other files or photos in Drive, and your voice recordings and transcripts are never written to Drive. You can disconnect at any time, which immediately revokes access.

Your voice stays on your device

No account is required to use Aloud. Speech recognition runs entirely on your Mac, and your audio is never uploaded. What you say is yours alone.
