Terms of Service
Last updated: June 19, 2026
The short version: Aloud is a free macOS dictation app provided as-is. Use it for personal dictation, keep your account secure, and understand that there are no warranties.
1. Acceptance of terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Aloud, a macOS dictation application created by Himanshu Gupta ("we", "us", "our"). By downloading, installing, or using Aloud, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
2. Description of the service
Aloud is a free native macOS application that transcribes your speech on-device and types the resulting text into the app you are currently using. All transcription happens locally on your Mac.
3. License to use the app
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to download and use Aloud on Macs that you own or control, for your own personal use. This license does not transfer ownership of the app to you.
You agree not to:
- Sell, rent, lease, sublicense, or otherwise commercially redistribute the app.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app, except to the limited extent that applicable law expressly permits despite this restriction.
- Remove or alter any proprietary notices contained in the app.
- Use the app in any way that violates applicable laws or the rights of others.
4. User responsibilities
You are responsible for how you use Aloud and for the content you dictate. You agree to use the app only for lawful purposes. You are responsible for keeping your Mac, your macOS account, and any connected accounts secure. Because Aloud types transcribed text into whatever app is focused, you are responsible for ensuring the correct app and field are active before you dictate.
5. Disclaimer of warranties
Aloud is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be error-free, uninterrupted, or that transcription will be accurate. You use Aloud at your own risk.
6. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of or inability to use Aloud. Because Aloud is provided free of charge, our total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to the amount you paid for it, which is zero.
7. Changes to the app and these terms
We may update, modify, or discontinue Aloud or any of its features at any time. We may also revise these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. Your continued use of Aloud after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
8. Termination
You may stop using Aloud at any time by deleting it from your Mac. We may suspend or terminate your license to use the app if you violate these Terms. Upon termination, the license granted to you ends and you must stop using the app. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including disclaimers, limitation of liability, and governing law) will continue to apply.
9. Governing law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of Aloud will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts located in India.
